Key Takeaways from the Event
Apple announced a lot of new prodcuts and features yesterday. Here are the one's we're most excited about.
The New iPhone Lineup: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max
The newest generation of iPhone has undergone a few notable changes from the previous model. The iPhone 16 inherits the Action Button from the iPhone 15 Pro, which replaces the mute switch found on previous models. The settings default to ringer settings, but this button can be programmed to do a variety of things like launch your camera, turn on your flashlight, or toggle on Do Not Disturb.
The iPhone 16 also adds an all-new camera control button on the side of the phone, which allows users to conveniently access their camera functions with the push of a button. It also gives users access to a variety of Apple Intelligence features linked to things like search and calendar updates.
In addition to new buttons, users will also enjoy a newly redesigned camera that allows for capturing spatial photos and videos. The improved 12MP ultra-wide camera allows for more light and improved image quality. New photographic styles have been added, which allow users to edit and customize their photos in real time.
The functionality of the phones has also been improved. The iPhone 16 features an upgraded A18 chip, which provides improved performance and efficiency. The chip is 30% faster than last year's chip and provides even better graphics. The iPhone 16 supports faster wireless charging, boosting to 25W with a MagSafe charger from the last model’s 15W.
The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models have also gotten various upgrades in both display and performance. The screen on the iPhone Pro 16 has increased from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, while the Pro Max has increased from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches. Each Pro model has a Super Retina XDR display and features a Grade 5 titanium design. Both the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be available in four colors: black titanium, natural titanium, white titanium, and desert titanium.
There will be five colors available for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus: black, white, pink, teal, and ultramarine.
The prices of the new iPhone 16 will range from $799 for an iPhone 16 (128GB) to $1,599 for an iPhone 16 Pro Max (1TB). They will hit stores on September 20th, but can be preordered now.
The Apple Watch Upgrade: Apple Watch Series 10
Along with new iPhones, the event revealed the brand new Apple Watch Series 10. The new watch has a thinner design and a bigger screen than previous models. It has a 40% brighter OLED screen and is available in two sizes: 42 millimeters and 46 millimeters. The larger design allows for an extra line of text on screen, which makes it easier for users to check emails and messages with a quick glance.
In addition to traditional updates like faster charging times, the newest Apple Watch also includes some interesting new features. It is the first Apple Watch able to detect sleep apnea by using the accelerometer to monitor a user’s breathing while they sleep. It will also allow for snorkelers and divers to measure depth through a built-in temperature and depth sensor. It also includes a newly redesigned speaker that can play music and podcasts.
There will be several colors available for the Apple Watch Series 10 in aluminum and titanium finishes. Prices start at $399. They will be available on September 20th, but pre-orders are available now.
The New-and-Improved AirPods 4
The AirPods 4 have a redesigned shape that Apple claims makes them the “most comfortable AirPods ever”. Along with the change in fit, the popular headphones have undergone significant improvements to sound quality, including spatial audio support. The AirPods case has also undergone a bit of its own redesign: It is 10% smaller and features USB-C charging.
These headphones are available with or without noise cancellation. The standard model will cost $129, while the higher-end noise canceling option will cost $179. You can preorder now ahead of the September 20th release.
Apple Intelligence
The new Apple AI features will be available as a free software update. The first set of features will roll out as a Beta test next month, with additional features being rolled out in the months to come. This new update will improve Siri's on-screen awareness which will change the way it interacts with your text messages, contacts, photos, and more. Apple also promises new innovations that increase productivity and search through their AI update. The folks at Apple want you to know that the new features built into the iPhone 16 will make this line of phones the best way to interact with their AI technology.
